We are becoming increasingly attracted to working with children. In our work with adults we frequently see that choices made in childhood are at the root of the adult’s behavior. It is often very challenging for the adult to change this behavior. We are intrigued by the possibility of supporting children to make healthier choices. We also imagine it may be easier to change choices when they have not been so deeply ingrained in the behavior. As well we are expecting a child and are, of course, extremely interested in how to best support our child’s development. We’ve looked at quite a bit of material on the subject, and we have many intuitive responses to questions that frequently come up as we work with adults. Until recently though, everything has been theoretical. We are very happy to start getting practical experience. We’ve recently started to work with the children of a woman we have been working with over the past year, an eight-year-old boy and a six-year-old girl. Our primary focus at the moment is looking at the relationship between the mother and children and playing with the idea of the children taking more self-responsibility. As we were working with them we had that wonderful feeling of excitement that tells us we are exactly in the right place doing the exact perfect thing. We are now looking for a few more families to work with to get more experience. At the moment it feels most appropriate to us to work with parents and children together and to work with the children of people who are already familiar with what we are sharing and the way we work. If you are interested in working with us this way please contact us. This feels like the beginning of a new direction for us. As we gain experience we look forward to expanding this work, and as our child joins us, it will be a wonderful way of including her/him. We are also extremely interested in how children are educated. Though it seems a long way away we are also attracted to becoming involved with creating a school to support looking at ways to help children reach their highest potential. We feel the work we are doing now is the first step in that direction. We will share information about how this work goes as it develops. |
